It’s not a good idea for Fixers to form such tight bonds with each other.

Story

Episode 1

Pre-Battle

San arriving while Mars and Lulu are arguing

The scene starts with Mars and Lulu in their Office. Lulu laments their Office's unpopularity with clients despite their affiliation with the ZweiAssociationIcon.png Zwei Association and high effectiveness. Mars points out the small amount of territory they are assigned to and their guarantee to get work as an Associate Office... eventually.

Lulu and Mars banter over Lulu's boredom with their lack of work, with her even proclaiming her intent to transfer to a larger Office. Mars doesn't believe she has the expertise to make a transfer possible, which leads them to banter over Lulu's "business connections" and Mars' mother. Their arguing begins anew when Lulu discovers that Mars has eaten a cake she put in the fridge.

At this point, San enters with a new assignment to discover the pair arguing. Mars tries to justify his action by saying the cake was expired, but quickly changes the topic to the Office's new job, to Lulu's chagrin. San calms Lulu down by promising her a new cake and then explains that their new job is an unofficial task from a friend of his who is an Associate Fixer of the Zwei. San explains that their task has yet to be officially addressed by the HanaAssociationIcon.png Hana Association, asking soon after if they know about the Library. Mars and Lulu have heard of it from stories told by the RatsIcon.png Rats, who mentioned that the Library has valuable books.

San reveals he has received an invitation to the Library from his friend, but Mars and Lulu start to question the risks of taking an unfamiliar and unofficial assignment. San notes that they were promised a Urban Legend-class payment for their success, and though he himself starts to question the risks, Mars and Lulu now agree to go, as the Office needs the money to make up for their recent lack of work.

Back in the Library, Angela is confused by various terms the Streetlight Fixers have mentioned. Roland explains to her about the 12 Fixer Associations in the City and the grading system used for Offices and requests in addition to Fixers. Roland explains that the grading system is a way of easily determining a person's worth and position. Angela is skeptical, but Roland shrugs it off as just another adaptation of life in the City.

After signing the Invitation and entering the Library, Mars and Lulu begin to argue again over taking the work. San has to interrupt and settle the argument by offering to take them out to eat at "Juli's restaurant". Afterwards, Angela arrives and notes the Guests' camaraderie. They are initially wary, but Angela tells them to calm down and introduces herself. San greets her, asking if they are still able to enter since he took the Invitation from someone else. Angela clarifies that the invitation worked as intended since it eventually reached the Fixers and they signed it with their names. After Angela leaves, Lulu notices that she was actually a machine, not a human. San reminds them to stay aware and retreat when the situation gets too dangerous to handle.

Post-Battle

Roland notes the close bonds of the Streetlight Fixers, which he considers a rookie flaw the surviving members will now have to grapple with. Angela questions Roland on how he comes to such a conclusion so casually. Roland responds by telling Angela about the importance of maintaining detachment as a professional Fixer, which he had to learn to do himself.

Episode 2

Pre-Battle

Lulu crying in the streets under the rain

Lulu and San managed to escape from the Library, but Mars did not. Back in their Office, they both mourn the loss of Mars. San blames himself for accepting the job involving the Library, intending to send it up to the Zwei Association. Lulu reacts harshly, believing this decision would make Mars' death worthless; San continues to voice his regrets and allows Lulu to blame him. Lulu notices a cake in the fridge. When San mentions that he wasn't the one who bought the cake, Lulu steps out of the Office.

Realizing Mars bought her the cake, Lulu cries in the streets under the rain as she remembers Mars and his dream of becoming a legendary Fixer like his mother. Lulu suddenly receives an invitation that lists the Book of Mars. Realizing what happened to Mars and the other victims of the Library, she is furious and decides to go the Library to avenge Mars. Knowing that San will never agree with her, she decides to recruit some of her Fixer contacts and go by herself.

Back in the Library, Roland remarks on the tragic scene, but Angela calls him out for this in relation to his previous comments about Fixers being unemotional. To justify himself, Roland tells Angela that people should not reveal their troubles to others without the listener's consent, and concludes that not opening up to others is for their safety, not just for the person themselves.

After arriving at the Library, Angela attempts to greet Lulu but is immediately attacked by her, though it doesn't have much of an effect. Lulu proclaims her desire to recover the Book of Mars, defeat the "monsters," and kill Angela, though Angela remarks that she will have difficulty with the third part. Lulu is unwilling to talk further, so Angela lets her enter the Library.

Post-Battle

Angela asks Roland whether he feels anything over his role in the tragedy of Streetlight Office. Roland notes that he does have some qualms, but that he has had many similar experiences as the victim during his time as a Fixer and so is used to them. Hearing this, Angela notes that Roland's description of himself doesn't match up with his introduction as a "washed-up Fixer". Roland refuses to elaborate, but Angela doesn't bother asking any further, and also notes how she could simply turn Roland into a book to read his secrets if she so wanted.

Roland swiftly changes the topic to hear Angela's thoughts on the matter; she is completely indifferent and cites her experiences under LobCorpIcon.png Lobotomy Corporation as the reason why. Angela also claims this is why she has set up the Library's Invitations to be the way they are; to give Guests the freedom of choice rather than be coerced into making choices. Roland still maintains that the Librarians have an inherent advantage given Angela's invulnerability and the ease of resurrecting fallen Librarians. Angela responds with annoyance, and so Roland concludes that her method is still more fair than most in the City.

Background

Streetlight Office is young, having been founded just two years ago. It is still of a low grade and is quite small, but its members have still developed close relationships with each other[1] to an extent which other Fixers even regard as unprofessional or "stupid".[2]

As a peacekeeping Office, Streetlight Office is highly effective, being able to completely eliminate crime in the area it is contracted to protect. However, its small size means it can only guard up to two blocks of space at once, and the ease of its work - simply watching over this area - means much of its members' time is spent waiting for events to happen. Partly because of this, the Office has been experiencing a drought of work lately. Still, the Office's affiliation with the Zwei Association means its financial stability is guaranteed through salaries from the Zwei, and it will eventually receive work. The only caveat in the arrangement is that they cannot refuse a request the Zwei gives them, though up until now it has not been a problem for them.[3][4]

Key Page stories

Note: San's Page is obtained from Zwei Association Episode 2. In the Credenza, it is listed under the Streetlight Office tab.

Mars’ Page

My mother was a Fixer with a high grade that every one of my peers would dream of reaching. She was the envy of all, a radiant individual who received endless supplies of various expensive equipment and garnered constant recruit offers from other Offices. Does that mean I had a safe, comfortable childhood under the care and wealth of such a wonderful person? Had that been the case, I would’ve earned a position in one of the Wings already. Being the son of a high-rank Fixer, I was often targeted by Syndicates opposing her, and my mother’s acquaintances held high expectations for me.

At first, I was okay with their expectations. I was already dreaming to follow the path of my mother. In fact, I was hoping to live up to it and hear compliments such as “I knew you could make it!” from others. “Yes. I’m going to become a great Fixer just like my mother. Then she’ll be proud of me one day, right? She’ll proudly say ‘That's my boy’, in front of others.” I studied hard day after day, taking no breaks in-between… Countless times, I held my sword with a strong resolve, and many days I spent weeping alone. Even if I faced setbacks and failures, I believed I could overcome them and stand strong like the protagonist of a movie. As if I could actually be someone great.

But in the end, I grew into an ordinary aspiring Fixer, and I learned that I was only an average person with no talent to show off. When I entered an ordinary Office with my ordinary capabilities, my mother seemed very glad to hear the news. She said an associate Office of the Zwei is a good start, and that I’ll certainly be able to become successful if I work my way up slowly. However, I was greatly disappointed in myself, and I couldn’t look my mother in the eyes until I said my final goodbyes and left the house.

Lulu’s Page

Ugh, crap… Another day without work! Fantastic. There’s got to be some case for us to take care of, like fly tipping or something? I’m gonna forget how to move at this rate… If I told my friends about this, they’re so gonna whine like “Well, isn’t it a good thing that you have a lot of free time~” or “You’re well off, we’re about to starve from the lack of requests~”. Those dummies… Think about it for a moment. You need results to promote to better Fixer grades and see some growth in your Office, right? And that’s gonna lead to higher income for us. For now, I’m working with my boss San and some dork shaped like a ball of rice cake… But things could be better than this in the future, yeah? …It’s not like I have problems with my coworkers!!! I’m talking about stuff like weapons, and Office interior… You know, those kinda things. You get what I mean!

I do bicker with Mars and snap at him often, yes! But that doesn’t mean I hate him. San and Mars are both precious colleagues to me. Though, yeah, I know what you’re about to say. If Fixers develop private feelings for each other, it could be much harder to bear whatever happens down the line. I know what I’m doing is stupid. I have wits, unlike mister rice cake face.

But we’re humans, it’s just… something that can’t be helped. How could we just strictly detach ourselves from one another and focus on work? I tried acting nonchalant, I did, but… I guess I can’t do it. San said he feels the same. I gotta envy Mars for being cool-headed all the time.

Lulu’s Friend, Page 1

A peacekeeping Office provides protection for requested territories for a certain period of time. Lulu’s is one of those Offices. What are they protecting against, you ask? The City, obviously. What I’m saying is, their job is to keep the area safe from all sorts of happenings and incidents that occur in the City. Of course, there won’t be much to do if the area is too small or peaceful.

But, man. Compared to us who have to wait indefinitely for someone to make a request… Lulu’s living a good life. At least she does something. And they don’t have to worry about starving to death even if they don’t get requests.

Lulu’s Friend, Page 3

As her friend, it’s unfortunate that Lulu is struck with grief. I don’t have any tears to shed for her, though. I’ve got my share of rough experiences, I’m just not sharing it with others. Well, I did say I’ll help her out, but the truth is… My Office figured that we could find plenty of valuable loot in the Library. And that’s pretty tempting. The other one is probably thinking the same thing as me. I mean, what dummy would actually head to such a dangerous place motivated purely by a friend’s sob story? That kind of intimate and deep relationship is long gone from this world. Especially in this business.

That’s why I can’t understand Lulu. Sure, let’s say that her colleague died there. Even then, she should be valuing her own life, shouldn’t she? She can be so stupid at times… Welp, I have to go in with her anyway.

San’s Page

An associate Office is one that is in a cooperative relationship with one of the Associations. The advantage of this designation is that its Fixers will not have to worry about starving, since they’re paid a stable salary… And that the Office simply has to handle tasks given by the Association with proficiency, rather than having to deal with clients and accept their requests as ordinary Offices do. Spending days without any incident happening in the area designated for peacekeeping can be admittedly boring… Though it’s a blessing to have such a peaceful day in the City. I was grateful to have such serenity each day, reasoning with Lulu’s occasional complaints.

Is boredom the only downside of being an associate Office? That’s not quite true. Because we’re under the direct command of the Association, we’re forced to take on any undesirable tasks they give. Even if it carries the risk of wiping out the Office…

…I can’t blame the Association, so I only have myself to fault for failing to save my guys.

Notes

  • According to artist Jin Harin, the reception icon symbolically represents the Office's mission statement; the streetlight creates a fence providing protection from outside threats.[5]
  • This is the first episode where any guests escape before being "fully" defeated.
  • The book A Backstreets Fixer, Vol. Ⅱ was originally obtainable from this reception. This was later changed, and that book is now only obtainable from the UrbanLegendIcon.png Urban Legend General Invitations.
  • The book Streetlight Office was originally comprised of two separate books, Streetlight Office, Vol. I and Streetlight Office, Vol. Ⅱ.
  • There are two unused guest Key Pages for Lulu's Friends: Lulu's Friend, Page 1 and Lulu's Friend, Page 4. These Key Pages are identical to Pages 2 and 3 in stats and differ only in appearance and/or weapon. Page 1's apparel is the same as Page 2 but color-swapped to a blue jacket, and its weapon is a war hammer. Page 4's apparel is identical to Page 3, but its weapon is a machete.
    • Interestingly, these appearances can still show up on the randomized Guest preview on The Invitation screen for Lulu of Streetlight, but will not when entering the Reception.
    • Similarly, there are two unused player Key Pages for Lulu's Friends: Lulu's Friend, Page 2 and Lulu's Friend, Page 4.
