Episode Summary
Pre-Battle
In a dilapidated laboratory in the Outskirts, Argalia sighs with disappointment while Eileen and Pluto accompany him because no one is able to answer his questions. It is revealed that he is interrogating a group of Outskirts residents who are squatting in the laboratory. When one of them speaks up, he immediately kills her and asks the remaining ones about The Red Mist, who gained her E.G.O. after coming to the laboratory, now revealed to be the original research site of the Seed of Light Project. The squatters beg to be left alone, especially because "monsters" are about to arrive, but Argalia simply kills each one who protests. He mentions that Lobotomy Corporation, the Library, and the former laboratory are his only leads into the power of E.G.O. following the advice of "her charming voice".
Argalia begins to reminisce about the Pianist, the destruction it left in its wake, and the death of his sister Angelica because of its rampage. Argalia came too late and only saw the aftermath, someone else having already killed the Pianist. He found his sister dead, made into part of the Pianist's piano. He claims that this didn't horrify him; instead, he found it beautiful. A squatter interrupts him in fear because the monsters of the Outskirts are about to reach them, and Argalia calmly continues reminiscing while he walks over and kills them.
Argalia says that he and his sister were far too disconnected in life, and he disapproved of her marriage to an "imbecile". However, in death, all their feelings could be laid bare. Despairing yet awestruck, he was convinced — with the advice of a "gentle voice" — to create a performance as glorious as that of the Pianist to honor his sister. In the meantime, he kills another Outskirts resident who interrupts him.
Argalia prepares to visit the Library
Another Outskirts resident screams because the monsters, "Clockwork Teeth", have arrived. Argalia is not impressed and orders Pluto and Eileen to act; Eileen immediately shuts down the monsters, claiming that clockwork is inferior to gears. Argalia kills a shocked squatter and continues his story. He eventually realized that the Red Mist and the Pianist both had the same power at their core, killing one last squatter as he speaks. Annoyed that he hasn't learned anything from the Library, he makes a show of unveiling an invitation and asks Eileen to give him some of her worshippers for backup. He orders Pluto and Eileen to stay behind, as he intends to return, since his goal is "not ripe yet".
Back in the Library, Roland points out the two Distortions accompanying Argalia. Angela comments that Argalia holds sadness in his face; Roland says that the "Blue Sicko" has simply gone mad with grief because of his sister's death, unstoppable because of his sheer power. Angela comments on the similarity of her name and Angelica's; Roland assumes that they bear the same meaning. Angela also asks him about the Clockwork Teeth. Roland doesn't answer her directly, but he says that the Outskirts is where "impurities" of the City are expelled to by the Head. Most such "impurities" are manmade but non-human sentients or other entities from far outside the City... a category including Angela herself.
At the entrance of the Library, Angela immediately arrives to greet Argalia. The latter is shocked at seeing her, mistaking her for Angelica, but quickly corrects himself and notes that Angelica could never be such a "hideous" thing. Angela loses her patience. Argalia muses to himself about the power of the Library and resolves to pursue it further.
Post-Battle
Roland and Angela complain about letting Argalia escape. Roland was looking forward to reading Argalia's book, which he claims to be for personal reasons. Angela mentions that Argalia was interested in the Red Mist, so a book about the Red Mist could potentially lure him back to the Library. Roland is skeptical since the original Red Mist no longer exists, but Angela believes she can circumvent this.
Angela changes the topic, asking Roland whether the Blue Reverberation might know that she indirectly killed Angelica by causing the Distortion. Roland thinks it is possible, so Angela surmises that Argalia may want revenge on her before realizing that anyone who suffered because of Distortions would resent her. Roland replies ambiguously and asks if she regrets her choices. Angela is unsure, but she doesn't like the idea that more and more people are coming to hate her. She redirects the blame to Ayin for trapping her and leading her to lash out against the City, disregarding Argalia's vengeance as just another conflict between her own desires and others' desires. Roland plays yes man to her response.
