Mang-chi
“ | Couldn’t afford to pay protection fees to a Syndicate, so the Sweepers came down at night and collected most of my neighbors. I had to witness ’em take chunks of flesh outta my parents and brothers while they were still breathing. Don’t pity me, though. My story ain’t nothing special around here. | ” |

Mang-chi (망치, Mang-chi) is a Rat who appears in the same Chapter, Episode 1. He acts as a helping hand to the "surgeon" of the group, Lenny, during the gut-harvests. He belongs to a group of Rats that is composed by him, Pete, and the already mentioned Lenny.
Appearance
Mang-chi has dark skin and black eyes. He wears a yellowish-brown hoodie, with the hood covering his head and his orange beanie. Over the hoodie, Mang-chi wears a white t-shirt and a brown one with line patterns over said t-shirt, all of his upper half or under a open black jacket with an emblem on the left shoulder. For his lower half, he wears blackish pants, white socks, and brown shoes. In combat, he wields a hammer.
Personality
Mang-chi is the most nervous of the trio. He demonstrates great hesitation in going to the Library since the group is unaware of what type of foes or other dangers await them inside. In other hand he also seems to be better at paying attention to detail compared to his Rat companions, being able to notice the round orange symbol on the back of the neck of their most recent victim and how such the person didn't seem to be the type that would have tattoos, claiming that they were a "desk-working dweeb".
Story
Mang-chi has been part of the Rats for an unknown amount of time, working as the "helper" in the gut-harvesting process.
In his past, Mang-chi lived in the Backstreets along with his parents and brothers. Unfortunately, one day his neighbourhood was unable to pay protection fees to a Syndicate, and when night fell Sweepers rose up and slaughtered Mang-chi's family along with some neighbours before his eyes.
Eventually, Mang-chi becomes a rat and joins Pete along with Lenny. However, they still face the reality of having to work to pay their debts to other Syndicates and avoid the Offices and Associations that guard certain areas.
During a gut-harvest, Pete, Lenny, and Mang-chi were almost caught by the Zwei Association. Forcing Lenny to take out the organs of a harvested body, they manage to escape before the Association members arrive. Back in their hideout, Pete and the others check the guts of the harvested body, thinking that once they sell them and pay the
Stray Dogs, they will finally join an
Urban-Legend Syndicate. But soon Pete points out that the organs are very damaged to be sold for any profit, something that Lenny tried to tell him. Mang-chi says that there is a tattoo of an orange round symbol on the back of its neck, which were of something that they haven't heard of yet, and with the time they have, there wouldn't be enough for another gut-harvesting trip.
Lenny presents the Invitation that she found inside the body to Pete and then after knowing of the Library, they decide to continue there, because else the Stray Dogs or the
Zwei who seems to still be in their pursuit will kill them anyway. All the members sign the envelope and then are transported to the Library. Pete remarks how the Library is fancier than he expected, and soon they are greeted by Angela. Pete asks if they really can take any of the Books, which Angela replies that they must 'gain' them. Mang-chi hesitates, doubting at the worth of the Books, but Pete tells them that beggars can't be choosers and need to take this opportunity.
Eventually, Mang-chi along the rest of the Rats dies in the Reception. Dropping the
Book of Rats which may contain his Key Page.
